Iinisikimm High School Intensive

Program Details

Location
Our home base will be at Camp Chief Hector YMCA, which is located 40 mins. west of Calgary at the base of Mount Baldy, just off the Trans Canada highway.

Who should attend
Iinisikimm
is a program for any 17 or 18 year old who is interested in being apart of a theatre ensemble, doing vigorous theatre rehearsal, living in the outdoors and tackling the challenge of creating and performing a puppet –lantern performance that celebrates the Buffalo and their return to the National Parks.  Students who are interested in learning more about the Buffalo and their role in the First Nations, Metis and Inuit culture and what they mean for all of us now.

Students do not need not to have experience in theatre, performance or the outdoors…however this is an asset.  What is most important is that you are willing to learn, participate fully and to be a part of a group.

Important:  Students are expected to attend and  participate in all activities fully.  There will be daily free time given where students can choose their own activities.  Students will be asked to leave cell phones in the Tipis throughout the day, they will have access to them at the end of the day during free time. The use and possession of alcohol, drugs and cigarettes are strictly forbidden throughout the entire program.

Accommodation
Students will be sleeping in Tipis which are furnished with bunk beds. A close walk from the Tipis will be the camp wash houses with bathrooms and showers, which we will be sharing with the rest of the Camp Chief Hector YMCA campers.   Participants will need to bring their own pillow, sleeping bag, extra blanket, towels, toiletries along with a variety of clothing to accommodate all Alberta summer weather in the Rockies while camping.

Meals
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided by the cook-staff of Camp Chief Hector YMCA and we will be eating with all other campers in the main lodge.  Food allergies and sensitivities can be accommodated.

What to bring
A comprehensive list of what what to bring will be included upon registration. The group will engage in a modest over night hike, hiking equipment may be provided if need be.
