A small collection of short puppet films by local contemporary creators. Handmade cinema where objects come alive and the strange, funny, and unexpectedly are small portals into a big imagination.

Evelyn Delgado

Evelyn Delgado, as lightpirate, is an interdisciplinary artist originally from Costa Rica, now based in Calgary, Alberta. Working in light- and time-based media, her practice includes live visual performance, liquid light projection, animation, and shadow puppetry. She creates works that explore play, learning, and miscommunication as a way to examine systems of belonging. Her  work invites audiences into shared moments of awe, curiosity, and reflection. Her practice is rooted in collaboration, experimentation, and live performance. She holds a Fine Arts degree in Art Education from Concordia University and a Master’s in Adult Learning, which inform both her creative and pedagogical approaches. She continues to expand her work across performance, installation, and educational contexts.

Jen Bain

Always learning, Jen, is a visual and performing artist whose work is inspired by fresh outlooks from unexpected life lessons.

Fascinated by the workings of the mind, and using a blend of puppet techniques, Jen weaves humour, insight and personal experience into art and antics. Her work draws from a rich journey of honest moments and insightful discoveries while navigating her thoughts and choices.

Full of heart, unexpected revelations and sheep, this chapter of the Stories We Right is a dive into Joy and the challenges of remaining present while experiencing it. Jen invites audiences to laugh, reflect, and connect thru unexpected honest storytelling and playfulness.

WUNDER-WANDERING-MASKS

A long form, roaming mask experience unfolding throughout the space. Three performers in Larval Masks drift, emerge, and mutate in ongoing scenes of strange beauty and silent hilarity. Like stumbling into a living dream you cannot quite explain. Look out for them around the festival!

Nyx Orr

Nyx is a queer emerging artist, creator, and delightful catastrophe. They find inspiration in people, in puddles, in poetry,  and in the treasures found in the depths of trash cans. Nyx loves to create theatre that is wild, in-your-face, and messy. They’ve acted, clowned, directed, moved, devised, and written their way through a variety of shows and performance pieces, and are excited to keep learning and creating.

Keith Boniol

Keith (he/him) is a Filipino-Canadian emerging theatre artist based in Mohkinstsis (Calgary, Alberta). Keith is a recent graduate from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama. As an actor, playwright, director, and drama educator. Keith’s goal is to create art that sparks conversations, highlights culture, and inspires community and togetherness. He has been very blessed to have found a community in the arts.

Abby Monarrez

Abigail (Abby) Monarrez is an emerging artist who enjoys getting their hands and painting clothes dirty. She is known for wearing many hats as a designer, muralist, scenic painter, mask and puppet maker, actor, and puppeteer. Abby is enrolled at the University of Calgary as a Drama Major with a Visual Studies (Art) Minor and is Co-President of the Drama Undergraduate Society. They are on an endless quest to create works that combine their love of visual art, performance, and community in a way that moves people and brings them together.
